Nevada Tigers tennis upsets Harrisonville
HARRISONVILLE, Mo. -- The Nevada Tigers tennis team upset Harrisonville, 5-4, Monday, in the team portion of the Class 1, District 12 tournament.
The Tigers entered the tournament with a record of 3-8. earning them the fifth seed out of five teams. That made head coach Clay Wheeler's squad an underdog in every match, right from the start, but that fact didn't seem to matter in the tournament opener as Colton Short,. Sam McCoy and Andrei Ziabchenko won singles matches for the Tigers, while the doubles teams of Short and Andrew Arneson and McCoy and Ziabchenko also posted victories on the day.
Monday's victory moved the Tigers into the tournament semifinals, setting up a matchup against the top-seeded Tigers of Warrensburg on Tuesday. The other semifinal match between Clinton and Knob Noster was also scheduled for Tuesday. Results from Tuesday's semifinals were not available at press time.
The championship match in this year's team tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, at 4:30 p.m., at a location that has yet to be determined.
