8 vying for Bushwhacker royalty
Eight candidates are vying for spots in the 2013 Bushwhacker Royalty, to be crowned Wednesday night.
The coronation will be at 6:30 p.m. on the Square, immediately following the opening ceremony volley by the Missouri Osage Territory Muzzleloaders.
All the candidates attended the royalty judging tea May 18 at the Bushwhacker Museum.
Little Miss Bushwhacker
Candidates for Little Miss Bushwhacker are Krysalea Diamond, Electra Evans, Josslin Gremmel and Charity Middleton. Profiles of each girl follow.
Krysalea Diamond
Krysalea Diamond is the 7-year-old daughter of Chris and Tabitha Diamond. She attended third grade at Northeast Vernon County Schools. She enjoys playing with her friends, fishing and listening to music.
When asked how you might promote interest in Nevada and Vernon County history she responded, "This is a great learning experience and I would like to learn more about it and share with others."
Electra Evans
Electra Evans is the 9-year-old daughter of Crystal Gapan. She attended third grade at Northeast Vernon County Schools and enjoys
drawing and painting.
Josslin Gremmel
Josslin Gremmel is the 6-year-old daughter of and loves to smile.
When asked how one might promote interest in Nevada and Vernon County history, she responded, "All who live here should know our town history. It's interesting and the museum should be promoted more."
Charity Middleton
Charity Middleton is the 8-year-old daughter of Heather and Dallas Brown. She attended second grade at El Dorado Christian School and is on the honor roll. She enjoys crafts, scrapbooking, art and sports.
When asked how she might promote interest in Nevada and Vernon County history she responded, "Encouraging young people to find out more about Bushwhacker history."
Junior Miss Bushwhacker

Kate Burch
Kate Burch is the 11-year-old daughter of Jered and Crystal Burch. She attended fifth grade at Truman Elementary in Nevada. She enjoys, volleyball, basketball, raising livestock, crafts and fashion. She participates in the Walker Christian Church Youth, Walker 4-H Club and Relay for Life.
When asked how she might promote interest in Nevada and Vernon County history, she responded, "I would like to see more historical information around town, for example, local businesses could display information about area history and early settlers."
Bushwhacker Princess
Bushwhacker Princess candidates are Christanne Middleton and Elizabeth Prewitt.
Christanne Middleton
Christanne Middleton is the 17-year-old daughter of Heather and Dallas Brown. She attended 11th grade at the El Dorado Christian School. She enjoys all sports, scrapbooking, FBLA, attended Girl's State and is on the honor roll.
When asked how she might promote interest in Nevada and Vernon County history she responded, "Generate interest in history of Nevada and greater knowledge of the Bushwhacker Museum."
Elizabeth Prewitt
Elizabeth Prewitt is the 16-year-old daughter of Wayne and Teresa Prewitt, attended 10th grade at Nevada High School. She enjoys participating in the NHS Band, Swim Team, LOL Club, NHS Renaissance, Youth Enrichment services, Neptunes Swim Team and FBC Youth Group.
When asked how she might promote interest in Nevada and Vernon County history she responded, "I will promote the history by helping to plan and set up a Bushwhacker Royalty Clinic to help add excitement and fun to the contest."
Bushwhacker Queen
The Bushwhacker Queen candidate is Crystal Burch.
Crystal Burch
Crystal Burch is parent educator and wellness coordinator for Nevada R-5 Schools and married to Jered Burch. She enjoys sponsoring local youth programs, gardening and reading. She participates in activities at the Walker Christian Church, Vernon County 4-H programs, and Relay for Life.
When asked how she might promote interest in Nevada and Vernon County history, she responded, "The area murals are a favorite of mine. I would create a scavenger hunt that would guide locals and tourists to the murals and other historical areas of interest."
