Upgrade or recycle your refrigerator, get rebates from KCP&L
Kansas City, Mo. -- Back-to-school is just around the corner, but there's still time for summer get-togethers with family and friends. For party hosts looking to make sure their stocked garage refrigerators aren't wasting money, KCP&L's new Home Appliance Rebates offer a way to recycle, upgrade and receive money back.
An inefficient refrigerator uses twice as much electricity as a new, efficient model. If the fridge is older -- made before 1993 -- it could cost more than $100 per year to run. Garages and basements across the region are often home to secondary, inefficient refrigerators like this that can be recycled with help from KCP&L.
KCP&L helps customers lower their energy use with several new rebates. For the Home Appliance Recycling Rebate, KCP&L will pick up qualified, old appliances -- beginning with a secondary refrigerator -- at eligible customers' homes. A $75 rebate is then sent. Customers benefit with lower energy bills and a rebate, while the environment benefits from the proper recycling of old appliances.
Refrigerators are just one type of eligible appliance. Customers may be eligible to recycle two additional appliances, including another refrigerator or freezer, as well as room air conditioners and dehumidifiers. All appliances must be in working order and must be owned by the customer and picked up at the address on the residential KCP&L account.
Recycling pick-ups can be scheduled at 1-855-612-4098. Representatives are available Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
KCP&L customers also may be eligible to receive rebates on the purchase of a new energy-efficient refrigerator or other major appliance with KCP&L's Home Appliance Rebate. In addition to a more efficient appliance that uses less electricity, customers will benefit from KCP&L's mail-in rebates.
