Helen R. LaGuire
Helen R. LaGuire, 96, formerly of Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Wilshire at Lakewood Care Center, Lee's Summit, Mo. She was born Nov. 30, 1916, in Three Forks, Mont., to Asa Lloyd Wood and May Dunn Wood. She married Harvey Clinton LaGuire on April 13, 1940, in Carthage, Mo., and he preceded her in death in 1969.
Helen graduated from Nevada High School in 1935. She worked for First Finance Company and for the Everette Teel Law Office for many years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Nevada. Helen had lived in Raymore for the past nine years.
Survivors include one daughter, Beth Lightner and her husband, Gene, Nevada; one son, John LaGuire and his wife, Linda, Lee's Summit, Mo.; grandchildren, Kathlene Kane and her husband, Jay, Independence, Mo., Johnna Davis and her husband, Terry, Lee's Summit, Mo., David Lightner and his wife, Jennifer, Nevada, and Christopher Lightner and his wife, Christine, Florissant, Mo.; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Baucom, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Mary Hunt; and two brothers, James Wood and Neal Wood.
A committal service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, with the Rev. Greg Ferree officiating. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
