The Walker Board of Aldermen appointed a new chairman of the board to take over as mayor pro-tem at its meeting Monday.

Robert Gier stepped down, and alderman Norman Radde was sworn in as mayor pro-tem.

The board voted 3-1, to pay the bills before it, with Lois McGraw voting no on the $11,000 purchase of a tractor without notifying the aldermen.

The bills were approved 3-1 with alderman Lois McGraw not in favor of a $11,000 tractor Gier purchased without informing the aldermen.

"It wasn't brought before the board, and things like that ought to be brought before the full board," McGraw said.

"At the time we didn't have a tractor and the lagoon needed to be brush-hogged again," Gier said.

In other business, mayor Radde asked the aldermen if he could purchase a $75 slab of concrete for the base of the siren's compressor. The aldermen voted 4-0 to buy the slab. The city's siren is built but not operational.

Alderman Gier asked if the money collected from a soda machine could be put into the park fund or the Walker Fun Day fund. The aldermen voted unanimously to create a Walker Fun Day account for the soda money, to make the park memorial fund a separate account and to make a separate account for maintenance of the community center.

In other businness, the aldermen agreed to not act on Constitution week and to pay the city marshall two tanks of fuel a month.

Two residents of Walker brought up concerns over board procedure and city finances before the aldermen, which the aldermen in turn addressed.
