Nevada volleyball defeats Girard on the road
The Nevada Lady Tigers volleyball team took to the road again Tuesday night, taking on the Lady Trojans of Girard High School in a varsity/JV doubleheader.
Things went very well for head coach Ashley Thoreson's varsity squad on the night as the Lady Tigers won their best-of-five match by the final scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-14. Things didn't go quite as well for coach Megan Krogen's junior varsity squad as it took Girard to five sets, but lost the second, fourth and fifth sets to drop the match by the final scores of 25-13, 25-23, 25-15, 27-25 and 18-16.
"Tonight we were able to play three out of five against Girard and the longer match allowed us to work on a few new changes to our line up and also get in some of our younger girls to get some varsity experience," Thoreson said. "We are working very well together on the court and we are now able to focus on fixing the little things that need (to be) worked on to continue to prepare for districts."
Not only did the Lady Tigers get to put in some extra work and get a win doing it, but also broke three school records in the process. Rilie Good finished the night with 20 kills, setting a new single-season record, and Morgan McNeley broke not only the single-season, but also the career record for assists as she finished the night with 38.
The previous single-season kills record was set by Alana Copeland, when she finished with 289 kills. McNeley set the previous single-season assists record last year, when she recorded 550, but has now eclipsed that mark with 562 this season.
The career assists record was held by Cassidy Lowery at 920.
"I am very proud of how well these two ladies have been playing and -- with the help of their teammates -- have been able to excel on the court," Thoreson said.
Good also finished the night with a team-high five blocks, while McNeley had 11 digs, seven kills, four blocks and two aces. Brooklyn Ryan led the Lady Tigers with 12 digs to go with her four aces and Bree Reppert finished with 11 digs and five kills.
With the win, the Lady Tigers improved to 17-7 on the season and will be back in action at 5 p.m., Thursday, when they host the McDonald County Lady Mustangs on Dig for a Cure Night, inside Wynn Gymnasium.
