Rilie Good named Athlete of the Week
SPRINGFIELD -- The Springfield News-Leader released its latest cast of Athlete of the Week winners Friday, and the list included one name that has become very familiar to fans of Nevada High School volleyball.
Junior middle hitter Rilie Good's dominance at the net led the Lady Tigers to wins last week over Ash Grove and El Dorado Springs. Against Ash Grove, Good finished with 17 kills, four blocks and one ace to go with the 20 kills, four blocks and four aces she recorded against El Dorado Springs.
Good went on to have an equally dominant performance against Girard (Kan.) in which she put up another 20 kills, breaking the Nevada High School single-season record. The old record was set in 2001, by Alana Copeland, when she recorded 289 kills that season.
With the nine kills she scored in Thursday night's match against McDonald County added into the mix, Good currently sits at 309 kills for the 2013 season, with two matches and a tournament left to play before the beginning of postseason competition, which is set for Oct. 28, when the Lady Tigers host the opening night of the Class 3, District 12 tournament, inside Wynn Gymnasium.
