Hume volleyball wins GVVC Tournament

BRONAUGH -- The Lady Hornets of Hume High School wrapped up the Golden Valley/Vernon County Conference volleyball championship Monday night with victories over Northeast Vernon County and Ballard at Bronaugh High School.

The Lady Hornets downed the Lady Knights in two sets, by the final scores of 25-17 and 25-10 to make their way into the championship match. The Lady Hornets went on to take the tournament championship, defeating Ballard by the final scores of 25-14 and 25-13 to complete a perfect conference season with a 7-0 record.

"The girls played very well," Lady Hornets head coach Delanya Thompson said. They came into the game (against Ballard) ready to win. We served and played well as a team."

Kaitlee Metcalf served 25 points points for the Lady Hornets -- including nine aces -- to go with her seven digs, while Hannah Jacobs finished the night with 14 kills. Hope Yarick added two blocks and 18 assists, while Lacie Gooch finished the night with 22 digs.

Haleigh Whitten served 14 points and had eight aces and nine kills, Cheyenne Davidson added 13 points and seven aces and Madison Cannon added 10 digs.
