The Sutton family benefit raised $6,000 at the fairgrounds on Saturday.

"We served 180 meals," Chris Mosbrucker, Missouri Extension youth program associate, said. "We had one young man in 4-H who donated his entire paycheck. It is just really remarkable."

The chili and potato supper and silent auction benefited the family of Christi Sutton who died Nov. 15. Members of 4-H and their families, especially those connected to the shooting sports club and Walker, donated and served the food and donated the auction items.

"The Suttons are part of the 4-H family," Mosbrucker said. "We want to try to ease their financial burden. We're doing this because we love them."

"I think it's important to support families in need," Cindy Vandenburg, who attended the benefit dinner, said. "The community needs to be there, especially when there's a loss. She was just an awesome person."

Jared and Heath Sutton said the food tasted delicious.

"We're thankful and happy to see all the people who've come out," Heath said. "We want to thank the community for its support and donations."

Anyone who wants to help the family may drop off donations at the Extension office.
