Nelda Noreen Chapman
Nelda Noreen Chapman, 82, of Sheldon, Mo., passed away Jan. 4, 2014, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born April 23, 1931, in Nevada, to Darrell S. and Sarah Belle (Wilson) Maxwell. She grew up in Milo and graduated from Nevada High School in 1948.
She married Robert Smith and to their union one son was born. In 1977, she moved to Texas and was then married to Joe Chapman. He preceded her in death. In 2011, she returned to the Sheldon area. She was a seamstress all of her life, worked at the Reno Cleaners while in Texas, loved to bowl and loved cats.
Survivors include her son, Darrell Smith and wife, Linda, of El Dorado Springs; grandson, Ronnie Smith and wife, Melissa, of Sheldon; three great grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, of Sheldon, Jared Nelson and Taylor, of Lamar, and Jordan Conner, of Carthage; special niece Pam Bowen along with several other nieces and nephews; and of special mention are her many friends that she had made throughout her life. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Maxwell.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Hall Cemetery in Jerico Springs, Mo., with the Rev. Bonnie Berry officiating. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home. Friends may call from Wednesday morning until 8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
