Tiger grapplers fare well in weekend tournaments
Nevada Tiger wrestlers competed in a pair of tournaments Saturday.
The varsity wrestlers finished 11th in the 42nd annual Monett Tournament. Oak Grove won the team title with 197.5 points.
Willard's Tigers were a distant second with 115.5, with Monett third at 107.5, Clinton fourth at 73.5 and Logan-Rogersville fifth at 52.5. Nevada was 11th with 25.5 points.
Dayton Miller finished second in the 113-pound A pool with a 4-1 record, losing to Clinton's Ryan Williams in the finals. Jacob Johnson was 5-0 and placed first in the 195-pound B pool with a pin of Republic's Brant Duryea in the finals.
Clay Regers was 4-1 and finished second in the 285-pound B pool. Trey Pritchett was 3-2 and finished third in the 220-pound B pool.
Colten Shrewsbury was 3-2 and finished second in the 120-pound B pool, while Cameron Diaz was 3-2 and took third in the 132-pound B pool. Daxtyn Hiestand finished 2-3 and took fourth in the 126-pound A pool, Scott Swink was sixth in the 182-pound A pool and Anthony Franco was sixth in the 160-pound A pool.
Tiger wrestlers Dalton Bittner and Will Reagan finished fourth and Peyton Walker was fifth in the junior-varsity tournament Saturday, at Seneca.
Next on the schedule for the Tigers is Thursday, when head coach Devin White's squad returns to dual competition at 6 p.m., Thursday, taking to the road to square off against the Tigers of Carthage High School.
