Lorraine H. Groom

Lorraine H. Groom, 99, Nevada, Mo., passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, in Nevada, after a brief illness. Lorraine was born Dec. 26, 1914, in Jasper, Mo., to Walker W. Hubbard and Ethel S. (Johnson) Hubbard. She was united in marriage to Elroy Groom June 26, 1937, in Carthage, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1986.

Lorraine grew up in Jasper, the third of 11 children, and graduated from Jasper High School Class of 1933. She then moved to California in 1941, where she worked for the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) as a cashier in their food service for 36 years. Lorraine and her husband came to Nevada in 1977, where she has continued to live since that time. She loved crocheting and quilting, and was an avid reader of books.

Survivors include one brother, Fred J. Hubbard and his wife, Charlyn, Joplin, Mo.; one sister, Wynonna Probert, rural Jasper; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and six sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, at Hackney Cemetery, near Jasper, Mo., with Lawrence Cripps officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
