Sam Foursha, Nevada's former economic development director, announced his candidacy for state representative in Missouri's 126th House District as a Democrat, citing his "wide array of experience in public service and economic development."

Foursha, a Nevada native, said he's running because he "wants to be a clear voice of consensus in the Missouri House -- not one beholden to stubborn party politics."

According to Foursha, "Missouri is facing some of the most difficult challenges in our history. The rural economy is weak; we have high unemployment; we need to invest in our schools; and the veterans and elderly need better care.

"But there's also good news -- both parties have a number of issues we can agree on -- issues like low taxes and sustained economic growth. I want to be a consensus builder for this district in the Missouri House and I promise to get to work on day one fighting for these goals."

Foursha grew up in Nevada, studied at the University of Missouri on a NROTC scholarship, and served 25 years in the Navy as a special operations officer. He then settled down in his hometown with his wife, Cindy to rear their son and daughter, Andy and Leslie.

As Nevada's economic development director, Foursha helped revive the area's ailing economy -- leading efforts to create new businesses and hundreds of new jobs, his campaign announcement said. Subsequently, the Federal Home Loan Bank recognized Nevada as one of the Midwest's Top Ten Communities.

In 2006, Foursha, while based in Nevada, returned to U.S. government service as a State Department senior advisor, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan for four years.

Foursha returned home in 2011 with a renewed appreciation for home and country, but also with a greater respect for the military men and woman who serve in harm's way, his announcement said.

Foursha's roots run deep in the area. He understands pressing issues facing families and lifestyles in the 126th District, he said. And he's running to represent you with a confident and clear voice in the Missouri House of Representatives, he added.
