Dustin Dunfield files for Vernon County Prosecutor
My name is Dustin Dunfield and I am running for the position of Vernon County Prosecutor on the Republican ticket. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the people of Vernon County.
I was born in Nevada on Dec. 3, 1974, making me 39 years old currently. I married the love of my life, Monica, in 1997. Shortly thereafter we were blessed with our first child, Myrissa, who is now 16 and a sophomore at Nevada High School. We have two other wonderful children, Katlyn, who is 13 and in the seventh grade, and Justin, age 8, and a second grade student at St. Mary's. My family has lived in Vernon County for at least four generations that I know of, and I have lived the majority of my life here. Therefore, I understand the issues and concerns that we are currently facing, primarily in the area of drugs.
I obtained my Associate of Arts degree from Crowder College in Nevada, Bachelor of Arts from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin and Law degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. I opened my office in Nevada in 2011.
What I intend on doing if elected is very simple. I will treat all people equally regardless of their name, economic status, sex or race. I will never look down on others or treat them with a lack of respect. I will work with law enforcement. I will use the plea agreement when necessary, but will never be afraid to take a charge all the way to jury trial if needed. I will use the Adult Recovery Court as a way for those charged with drug use, who are looking for help, to receive help, but not as a way for them to just stay out of prison. I will never allow a drug dealer to enter into Adult Recovery Court. When those who are on probation after accepting a plea agreement break the law in the future, I will send them to prison. I will be fair but tough.
