An unruly arrestee harmed a female victim and vandalized her vehicle before damaging a police car Friday afternoon. Nevada Police reported Tuesday that an assault at the intersection of Cedar and Sycamore streets led to four charges being filed.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Officer Lukas Gibson, officers responded to a scene where a woman had been assaulted and a vehicle had been vandalized. The victim, who Nevada Police said was a healthcare worker, said she was working when her male client began threatening her. He then allegedly threw a rock at her vehicle and broke out a back window with a pole.
The victim told officers she was wrestled to the ground, where she was hit on the head and her hair was pulled.
The probable cause statement reported that a third individual, who worked with the victim, arrived at the scene and was able to break up the assault.
The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Richard Draper, then failed to cooperate with officers. Gibson's report said officers had to force Draper into the patrol car, where he then began striking the back window. Despite being warned to stop, Draper continued, and damaged the window and door.
Nevada Police Chief W. Graham Burnley said that the window was knocked off its tracks. As of Tuesday, the vehicle was out for repair.
Officers, assisted by deputies from the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, then attempted to remove Draper from the car. During that process, Draper kicked and spit on several officers and deputies.
Missouri court records show Draper was charged with first-degree assault, resisting arrest for a felony and two counts of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle. He was held at the Vernon County Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond.
