Laura Fern Pratt

Laura Fern Pratt, 97, Nevada, Mo., passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at Christian Health Care in Nevada after a brief illness. Fern was born Nov. 26, 1916, in Richards, Mo., to Oscar Swan and Nina A. McCoy Swan. She was united in marriage to Arthur Pratt and he preceded her in death.

Fern was raised in Lake Township in Vernon County and attended the Durham School. She then moved to Texas living in Cut N Shoot for a number of years and also spent some time living in College Station. She returned to Nevada four years ago and had continued to live here since that time. In her spare time Fern enjoyed quilting and was a member of several quilting clubs.

Survivors include one brother, Neal Swan, Nevada; nephew, Alan Olson, Nevada; nieces, Gayle Archer, Archie, Mo., Lynne Olson, Butler, Mo., Evelyn Pike, Sheldon, Mo., and Linda Pike, Nevada, Mo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Joe Kirk.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, at Ferry Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at a later date in Texas.
