Elizabeth Annete York
Elizabeth Annete York, 53, of Nevada, Mo., passed from this life on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, in Nevada. She was born Jan. 6, 1961, in Kansas City, the daughter of Irvin Alfred and Ina Vernetta (Hill) Cochran. On Dec. 23, 1983, she was united in marriage to Michael Allen York. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Elizabeth was raised in the Kansas City area where she attended school, then in 1989 relocated to Garland, Kan., when she and her husband made the decision it would be best to raise the children in a smaller, friendlier community. The family then once again relocated to Fort Scott where they made their home until Michael's death. A few years after his passing she moved to Nevada and has lived in this community since that time.
She held various positions throughout her working life with one of her favorites being employed as a sales associate for Walmart in Fort Scott. During what spare time she could find, Elizabeth loved crocheting, reading, watching movies, and playing games on her computer. When she could get away, she also loved to travel. But her greatest loves were her children, grandchildren, and new great-granddaughter. She loved them all dearly and wanted to spend as much time with them as possible. She regularly attended the Cornerstone Baptist Church, in Nevada.
Survivors include her children, Katherine Hoskins and Ray, of Nevada, Mary Meyers, also of Nevada, Victoria LaTurner and Eric, of Riverton, Kan., and Rebecca Turner and Paul, of Otwell, Ind.; grandchildren, Anthony and Lacie, Christina, Robert, Daniel, Joseph, Caleb, and Sammy; great-granddaughter, Eliza; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Of special mention is Elizabeth's dearest and best friend since childhood, Dottie Porter. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Daniel, Susan, and Mary; two of her children, Michael and Sarah; and a granddaughter, Hope.
A memorial services for Elizabeth Annete York will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 20, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, in Nevada. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan.
