Nevada, Hume, Sheldon school boards vote to oppose Amendment No. 3

More than 120 Missouri school districts have adopted a resolution opposing Amendment No. 3, Nevada Superintendent Tyson Beshore, told the Nevada R-5 Board of Education during its October meeting.
Beshore said the amendment would result in the loss of local control of many educational decisions.
He said that the supporters of Amendment No. 3 have withdrawn their financial support of the measure, but it remains on the Nov. 4 ballot.
"I think it is important to join with the 120 school districts so we are on the same page," he said, before the Nevada School Board voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
A similar sentiment was expressed by the Hume R-8 School Board during its Sept. 13 meeting.
"Amendment No. 3 takes away local control of educational decisions from parents, teachers, administrators and school boards. It is a state mandate of how to evaluate teachers and prevents school boards from hiring, promoting, compensating and dismissing teachers in accordance with their local board policies. Additionally, Amendment 3 would require more standardized testing for students, which school districts and tax payers would be forced to pay for," R-8 School Board president Stephen Yarick stated after the board's decision to oppose Amendment No. 3.
"We do not think that Amendment No. 3 is in the best interests of our students, parents, teachers, administrators, and schools. Accordingly the Hume R-8 School Board opposes Amendment No. 3," Yarrick said.
Sheldon R-8 superintendent Tim Judd said in an email "the Sheldon R-8 Board or Education voted to adopt a resolution to oppose Amendment 3 on the November ballot at its regular meeting on Sept. 10."
Bronaugh's superintendent Lyle Best said in an email that "It was on the agenda ... The board had an opportunity to adopt a resolution opposing the amendment but did not make a motion."
Northeast Vernon County superintendent Charles Naas said in an email that as of Oct. 13 the NEVC school board had not adopted a resolution opposing Amendment No. 3.
