After celebrating Senior Night prior to Thursday night's match, the Cottey Comets volleyball team was defeated by the Longview Lakers 25-13, 25-13, 25-17.
After taking a quick lead in the opening set, the Lakers poured it on, and Cottey found themselves trailing big.

Comets coach Marla Kannady-Foreman was frustrated by her team's hitting percentage in the first set.
"Hitting percentages killed us tonight," she said. "A 9 percent for game one, where we had five kills and eight hitting errors. Makes for a long night.
Kannady-Foreman also said the team had issues in other areas.
"Setting was off tonight as well," she said. "Because we spent more time out of our system than in it, so that makes the setters have to adjust, and we struggled in that."
Cottey encountered the same problem in the second set, as they quickly found themselves buried with a big deficit.
Kannady-Foreman indicated her team seems to be regressing rather than progressing, at this point.
"I have seen how we have progressed during season and as we enter the end of the season, we are starting to develop problems which you would expect to show up sooner," she said.
Kannady-Foreman elaborated on the issues, which are cropping up late in the season.
"We started out with getting used to college level defense," she said. "Then, it was hitting errors. After that, it was low energy level to maintain steady momentum on our side, to produce several point runs on our opponents. And just recently, we're missing way too many serves."
Cottey played their best in the third set, but to little avail, as Longview took control and gradually pulled away.
"Tonight's match was a mix of being off on the blocking, setting, and the hitting errors," Kannady-Foreman said. "The setting is a new thing. We need to stop finding areas to have problems in and start putting together the whole package."
For Nevada, Kannady did a little bit of everything with 10 assists, 10 digs, 5 kills, a block and an ace.
Kelsey Davidson also stuffed the stat sheet with 12 digs, 7 kills, and 2 blocks.
Maddie Lugenbeel added 10 and 9 assists. While Morgan Taylor chipped in with 6 digs and 5 kills.
"The ray of hope I walked away from tonight's match with, was the energy level and sense of determination my players had against a pretty decent team," Kannady-Foreman said.
Kannady notched a team-high 26 percent hitting percentage.
Kannady-Foreman was encouraged that her team had five blocks, three aces, and only two serving errors. However, 19 hitting errors combined with only 20 kills, did not sit well with her. In addition, seven serve-receiver errors coupled with five ball handling errors are areas Kannady-Foreman would like to see cleaned up.
"We only scored 13 points in games one and two, but refused to lie down and give up," she said. "We need that determination going into the final matches."
