Payne receives accolades at Iowa Wesleyan

Alex Payne, a freshman at Iowa Wesleyan, shows off his newest duds. Recently, Payne was voted by his peers, Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year. Before arriving at Iowa Wesleyan, Payne was a four-year starter at quarterback for Nevada High School, graduating in 2014.

Former Nevada High School quarterback Alex Payne, now a freshman at Iowa Wesleyan, was voted the Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year. All football award-winners were voted on by their teammates.

Payne played in several games for Iowa Wesleyan this year, scoring his first collegiate touchdown Sept. 12. Payne is a 2014 Nevada High School graduate and was a four-year varsity letterman in football, baseball, as well as two years in basketball. In addition, Payne was a two-time recipient of the Sportsmanship Award. He was the captain of the football team for two years. He was named honorable mention All-Southwest Missouri his junior year and third- team All-Southwest Missouri his senior year, while also being named first-team All-District his senior season.

He is the third winningest quarterback in NHS history and a part of the third winningest team in school history. Payne was also a member of the winningest team in Nevada baseball history. Payne's plans on playing for the Iowa Wesleyan baseball squad this Spring, which kicks off the season with a trip to Florida in March.

Alex Payne with his sister Megan, who is a junior at NHS. Megan, a standout tennis player, is also a starting forward for the Nevada Lady Tigers basketball team.

Payne has also been named to the 2014 Fall semester All "A" Honor Roll for Iowa Wesleyan. He is majoring in education and wants to one day become a school superintendent.
