Bronaugh teams topped at tourney
Bronaugh's boys and girls both fell in the consolation round Friday night. The girls were playing fifth and stayed close but a cold spell in the fourth quarter proved the difference in a 41-32 loss to Liberal.
The boys were going for fifth as well, also facing the home team in Liberal in the annual Tony Dubray Classic, and while playing close in each period, never could win an eight-minute segment and lost 60-47.
In the girls' game, the Wildcats trailed 8-7 at the first break but went cold in the second period, managing just six points, and trailed 22-13 at halftime.
Bronaugh recovered with a strong third and closed to 27-24 behind an 11-5 edge in the quarter. But the Wildcats netted only eight points in the fourth and Liberal finished strong with 14 to wrap up the outcome.
Amanda Raper had a team-high 17 points to pace the Wildcats. Katey Rider added seven, Bonnie More and Taylor Stratford three and Heather Baker two.
In the boys' game, Bronaugh trailed just 13-11 at the first break and 32-26 at halftime as they were outscored only 19-15 in the second.
Liberal added to the lead behind an 11-8 margin in the third for a 43-34 difference with eight minutes to play. A 17-13 difference in favor of Liberal wrapped up the decision.
Bryce Whitworth collected 20 points for the Wildcats. Cole Diggins added 10, Tyler Strunk eight, Gabe McIntire four, Parker Norman three, and Justin Hudson two.
