Council considers bids for police station furniture

The city of Nevada received a grant from the Richardson Foundation to purchase furniture for the new police station and recently requested bids for the needed furniture.

Tuesday night the Nevada City Council, after an extended discussion about some concerns about the transparency of the bidding process, voted 4-0 to reject the bids for stackable chairs, with council member Blake Hertzberg abstaining because Hertzberg Furniture had bid on the furniture.

The council also voted 4-0, with Hertzberg abstaining, to accept the low bid of $10,607.92 from Cavener's Library and Office Supplies for office furniture for the offices in the new police station.

In other business the council:

* Voted 5-0, to accept the bid of $51,293.24 from the sole bidder, Greens Pro Inc., for chemicals for the golf course and ball fields at Twin Lakes Sports Complex.

* Voted unanimously to pass on first reading a special ordinance approving a change to the agreement with Buildet LLC, for the Spring Street Sidewalk Project, to change the construction from 90 calendar days to 64 working days because of the time and type of construction. The change is agreeable to the contractor, the city and Missouri Department of Transportation, which is paying for the project.

* Voted 5-0, to pass on first reading a special ordinance accepting the low bid of $1,760, from CDL Electric Co., for the maintenance and bi-annual service contract for the city's nine outdoor sirens.

* Voted 5-0, to pass on first reading a special ordinance, approving several miscellaneous changes to the city's agreement with RE Smith Construction agreement for the new fire station. The changes, plus a credit from RE Smith reduced the construction agreement by $15,616.

* Voted 5-0, to pass on second reading a special ordinance approving a contract with APAC-Missouri of Springfield for the 2015 sales tax street improvements. The total cost of the contract is $359,005.35.

* Voted 5-0, to give final approval to a special ordinance approving a $29,800 inter-fund loan at the current market rate of 1.47 percent to the parks fund from the special project fund to be repaid in three annual payments of $10,226.79. The loan is to cover the purchase of two mowers for the parks department.

* Voted 5-0, to pass on second reading a special ordinance to increase the sports complex machinery and equipment budget by $9,800 to account for the cost of two mowers for the parks department being higher than budgeted.

* Voted 5-0, to pass on second reading a special ordinance accepting the low bid of 1.4 percent from U.S. Bancorp Government Leasing and Financing Inc., for the financing of five new police vehicles. The total cost of the finance package is $155,585, with an annual payment of $32,505.61 for five years.
