The Nevada Tigers golf team finished runner-up at the West Central Conference Tournament, Thursday at Hidden Pines Country Club in Warrensburg. Five Tiger golfers came away with a top-12 finish, earning WCC All-Conference tournament honors.

"That's a rarity," Nevada golf coach Brian Leonard said of placing five players in the top 12.

In addition for Nevada, the second-place finish secured a spot in Monday's district tournament in Grandview.

Nevada finished with an overall team score of 335, eight strokes back of tournament host Warrensburg.

For Nevada, sophomore John Quitno finished in third-place, shooting a 9-over 80, at the 18-hole par-71. Quitno fired a 1-over 37 on the front-nine, and an 8-over 43 on the back nine.

Warrensburg golfer Bailey Woods earned a first-place finish with a 72, while fellow teammate Brett Ballard edged Quitno for second-place with a score of 79. Nevada's Patrick Ferry tallied an 84, good for fifth-place, while teammate Andrew Quitno finished in sixth-place, after also firing an 84.

"Patrick and Andrew really stepped up for us, both shooting an 84," Leonard said. "That really helped."

Nevada's Levi Palmer settled into eighth-place with an 87, while sophomore Jacob Hammontree placed 10th with an 89.

Leonard said he was impressed with the overall play of his team, as they navigated a tough course.

"The greens were small and fast, and the wind was swirling," he said.

Leonard added that Thursday's outing was a good tune-up for distrcit-play.
