Coleene Fay Leavell

Coleene Fay Leavell, 65, Joplin, Mo., passed from this life on Friday, May 8, 2015, in Joplin, following a sudden illness. Coleene was born on Oct. 4, 1949, in Holdrege, Neb., to Otis F. and Ola Wilma (Owens) Atkins.

Coleene, along with her family, came to Missouri at a young age and settled in the El Dorado Springs and Osceola areas. She worked at Key Work Clothes for a time and then later for Heartland Hospital, in Nevada, for a number of years. Coleene had resided in Joplin for the past 20 years, she was currently employed by the Community Support Services where she had worked for 18 years.

Survivors include two sons, Jason (Blu) Leavell, Joplin, and Steve Leavell and his wife, Melissa, Sheldon; five grandchildren, Kelsey Leavell, Eric Leavell, Devion Leavell, Kylie Leavell and Jason Leavell; one brother, Wayne Atkins, Nixa, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Marshall Leavell.

A committal service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 16, at Sheldon Cemetery, in Sheldon, with the Rev. Jerod Lamb officiating.
