During this national police and law enforcement week, Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher took time to honor members of the Sheriff's Office for heroic and commendable actions in recent weeks and months during a ceremony Tuesday.
Mosher presented letters of commendation to canine handlers and couple, deputies Brett and Brittany Dawn, for their work in El Dorado Springs in February and April, when they assisted the local police department with their search warrants using their canines.
Since those incidents, Mosher said he received a call from the El Dorado Springs police chief expressing his gratitude for the team.
"He wanted to let me know he was extremely impressed with the service of the canines and the deputies we sent over," Mosher said.
Sgt. Travis Cole was also given a letter of commendation as well as a lifesaver award, recognizing his quick actions on April 14, when he responded to a possible fire call. Upon arriving, Cole discovered there was indeed a home on fire and proceeded to kick in the door when he suspected there were residents still inside and in danger.
Because of that quick decision, Cole was able to help an elderly woman outside of the house and to safety.
Mosher also recognized the three newest police academy graduates, Dustin Honeyfield, Michael Bolan and Tanor Perryman. While working full-time at the Vernon County Jail, the three also took classes during the nine-month academy, some taking night classes while working during the day or working nights while taking daytime classes.
The three graduated last Thursday with their Missouri Peace Officer License and Mosher commissioned them Tuesday as Vernon County deputies.
Deputy Joshua Mullin, though absent Tuesday, was also honored for his assistance at a vehicle accident last month, when he discovered a victim was not breathing and briefly did CPR until the victim revived.
"I am very proud of the staff at the Sheriff's Office and the time, efforts and dedication they give our community," Mosher said. "Each one recognized here today should be proud of what they have accomplished and know that the work they do does not go un-noticed."
