The ninth annual Schowe 'n Shine car show and the eighth to benefit the Nevada Area Habitat for Humanity will be back Saturday in the lot at Ron Schowengerdt's dentist office, 1701 W. Austin Blvd.

Schowengerdt said that over those eight years the car show has raised $39,041 for Habitat for Humanity.

"That's a house in building materials," he said.

Members of the Area Habitat for Humanity will be working at the car show, as well as members of the Nevada High School FBLA.

Registration for the show opens at 8 a.m., and the show is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the presentation of awards to follow.

People who attend the show can vote on the People's Choice Award and those registered for the show vote for the Best in Show, with trophy's going to the top 50 cars and trucks.

Schowengerdt said there are usually around 75 cars on display and this year he is hoping for more motorcycles being entered. There is a cost for each car, truck or motorcycle entered in the show, and if there is a second vehicle entered by someone in the same family, wife, son, etc., the fee for the second vehicle gets a discount.

"All of the registration fee's go directly to Habitat," Schowengerdt said.

He said the ever-popular barbecue contest would be back, bigger than ever.

The last three years he said they have sold out of the barbecue, so this year they have doubled the number of teams, which are all church groups, participating.

This year he said they will have teams from Riverside Cowboy Church; Schell City Christian Church; Living Hope Ministry, Walker; First Christian Church, Nevada; and United Methodist Church, Nevada.

He said a sample of all the different barbecue entries may be purchased and gives people an opportunity to vote for their favorite.

"We award a nice plaque to the winner," he said.

A full meal with samples of all five barbecues, plus beans, slaw, cookie and a drink is also available.

There will also be a live auction of items of interest to a car enthusiast, plus Anheuser-Busch donated a large neon sign to be auctioned.

If the car show or the barbecue is not of interest, Lori Fast will be doing face painting for children or adults. Dolly the Clown will be there and there will be games for the kids.
