The Sheldon 4-H club meets every year to place flags on veterans' graves at the Sheldon cemetery.
"It feels good to be able to decorate the graves," said Meckinize McCartney. "It's our way of saying 'thank you' for all that they gave. If it were not for each and every one of them, I would not have the freedom that I enjoy today.

"We placed a flag on the grave of Glenn Dockery, that was a big honor for me. I knew Glenn and he was a great man that I miss dearly. He used to tell me stories about World War II, General George S. Patton, the battle of the Bulge and many more. The history lessons he gave me, you will never learn from a book.
"Many people think 4-H is just about farming and animals, but we learn much more than that. We learn about our flag, our country, our freedom and respect of our veterans.
"So as you fire up the grill this weekend, take a moment to remember what Memorial Day means and take time out to say thank you."

McCartney added that as a club, the 4Hers didn't have enough flags to put on every grave. "If you know of anyone that would be willing to donate flags, we could really use them."
