Harry Carroll Householder Jr.
Harry Carroll Householder Jr., 89, Milo, Mo., passed from this life on Friday, May 29, 2015, at Freeman West Hospital, in Joplin, Mo. Carroll was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Milo, to Harry Carroll and Jenny Swift Householder. On Jan. 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to L. Maxine Warner, in Girard, Kan., and she preceded him in death in 2008.
Carroll was raised in the Milo area and also spent time in Cabool, Mo., for several years. He attended Milo school until the age of 17 when he joined the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. During his years of service Carroll saw action in the Pacific Theater and was involved in seven major battles from 1943-46. Following his separation from the military he returned to the Nevada area and worked for a time in the construction business before working for Brophy Monument Company, in Nevada, for 16 years. At that time he began Householder & Son Monument in El Dorado Springs, Mo., which he owned and operated for nearly 30 years until his retirement due to health problems. Carrol loved hunting and fishing, and enjoyed music.
Survivors include his son, Leland Householder and his wife, Janet, Gentry, Ark.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Howard Householder and his wife, Karen, Ozark, Mo., Don Householder and his wife, Carolyn, Nevada, and David Householder, Lamar, Mo.; one sister, Mary Lou Ijams, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Maxine, Carroll was preceded in death by one son, Larry; two brothers, Harold and Bill; four sisters, Betty Jo Howrey, Alice York, Melba Driscoll, and Alberta Householder.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 3, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Pastor Roger Beach officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
