Richard R. Hargrove
Richard R. Hargrove, 82, of Queen Creek, Ariz., passed away March 15, 2015. He was born in Dederick, Mo., on Feb. 24, 1933, to Charley and Bertha Hawkins Hargrove.
Richard was a star player for the 1951 Nevada High School Basketball Big 8 Champs. He attended Wichita State University on a basketball scholarship until he was drafted by the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He later returned to college, attending the University of Arkansas, studying architecture. On Dec. 7, 1958, he married Sharron E. Brewer with whom he had his daughter, Sandra, before divorcing in 1972. He had a successful career as an architect with certification in the state of Michigan, as well as the state of Missouri. He practiced in Detroit, MI for several decades, before returning to Nevada, Mo. For the last two years, he resided with his daughter and family in Queen Creek, Ariz.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Sandra and her husband, Tim Fernandez, and his grandchildren, Sarena, Emma, and Katherine; his sister, Ruby Sherman; his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Pat Hargrove; several nieces and nephews; and his long-time companion, Claudia Herold, and her children, Geoff and David Bailey, and their families.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Lola Heacock, Lucille Nelander, Marvin Hargrove, Ethel Wynes, Ann Cox, Harriet Neill, Terrell Hargrove, Allen Hargrove, and Evelyn Bea Hargrove; several sisters and brothers-in-law; and ex-wife, Sharron Brewer.
The Hargrove Reunion, honoring Richard's life with his favorite family gathering, will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 15156 E. Pony Hill Road, Nevada, MO 64772, on Tuesday, June 23, at 11 a.m. Friends, as well as family, are invited. Interment will be at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
