Daniel "Blue" Boyd Dickey
Daniel "Blue" Boyd Dickey, 74, of Liberal, Mo., passed from this life on June 25, 2015, at Barton County Memorial Hospital, in Lamar. He was born Dec. 20, 1940, in Bronaugh, the son of Charles Ivan and Ruth Maxine (Worsley) Dickey. He was united in marriage to Zella Jane (Janie) Crowe and she preceded him in death on June 27, 2007. Their union was blessed with two beloved sons, Tony Lee Dickey and Danny Ray Dickey, who also preceded him in death as well as his parents and brother, Francis Ivan Dickey. Later on April 8, 1990, he married Audine (Hurt) Dickey and she survives of the home.
"Blue," as he was known, grew up and spent all of his life in this area. He attended school in Bronaugh then later the Police Academy. His early working years were spent in the construction industry, with time also spent working for the railroad and at the missile base. But his great passion and work interest was law enforcement. After graduating from the Police Academy, he served as the Police Chief of Liberal from 1981-84, and then moved to the Sheriff's Department in Barton County where he was quickly promoted to Sergeant, serving from 1985-96. For a brief time after that he did work construction until he decided to semi-retire in his early 60s. He was a longtime member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle in Pittsburg, Kan., where he was serving as an Elder at the time of his death. He had a great love of the outdoors, hunting turkey and deer, but had a special love of Elk hunting enjoying trips to Colorado from time to time for hunts.
Aside from his wife, Blue, is survived by children, Melissa England of Chicago, Ill., and Rick Hurt of Frontenac, Kan.; grandchildren, Derrick Dickey and Jaimee of Miami, Okla., Jared Dickey and Amber of Webb City, Sheena Dickey of Nevada, Kayla DuMelle and Paul of Chicago, Christopher England of Chicago, Joshua England and Desiree of Chicago, and Darian Hurt, Drew Hurt, and Dayton Hurt, all of Carl Junction; great-grandchildren, Keyton Dickey, Jordyn Dickey, Caden DuMelle, Ryder DuMelle, Kevin Quirk, and Avery England; a sister, Leanne Rae Henson and husband, Gail, of Bronaugh; and nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with many other extended family members.
Funeral services for Daniel "Blue" Boyd Dickey will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 29, at the Lighthouse Tabernacle in Pittsburg, Kan. Interment will follow in the Worsley Cemetery, in Bronaugh. Visitation is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, June 28, also at the church.
