Area residents using the Pulse interactive exercise equipment at Walton Park will soon have a safer surface surrounding the equipment. Tuesday night the Nevada City Council voted 3-0, with council members Jayne Novak and Blake Hertzberg excused, to give final approval to a special ordinance accepting a 2015 Playground Scrap Tire Surface Material Grant in the amount of $5,925 from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

The grant will cover 100 percent of the cost and installation of the material. The parks facility maintenance staff will pour a concrete slab as the base and other site preparation work.
