National Night Out at Walton Pool Aug. 4

The residents of Nevada will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the "32nd Annual National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m.

National Night Out, which is co-sponsored locally by the city of Nevada Police Department and the Parks Department, involves more than 16,540 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, more than 38 million people are expected to participate in America's Night Out Against Crime.

In Nevada, the city will be hosting a swim party at the Walton Family Aquatic Center located at the intersection of Atlantic and Ash streets. Mayor Brian Leonard will present Chief Graham Burnley with a proclamation for 2015 National Night Out. Sheena Dickey with KNEM/KNMO Radio Station will be the master of ceremonies for the evening. Door prizes are to be given away throughout the evening.

Last year's event sponsors included 3M, Cavener's Office Supply, Chambers of Commerce, Children's Center, city of Nevada, Crowder College, Family Video, Gideon's, Girl Scouts, Head Start, Healthy Nevada, Heartland Behavioral Health Services, Heritage State Bank, Honey's Hope, KCP&L, McDonald's, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Moss House, Nevada Fire Department, Nevada Housing Authority, Nevada Lions Club, Nevada Police Department, Nevada Regional Medical Center, On My Own, Sonic Drive In, Sutherland's, U.S. Bank, Vernon County Ambulance District, Vernon County Sheriff's Department, West Central Community Action Agency, Woods Supermarket and Y.M.C.A.

National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin said, "This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation."
