The annual Music Marathon on the Square continues with a Springfield band coming to Nevada to perform for members of the community Thursday evening.

SpringTown became a band in recent months but is currently working on an album and recently recorded their song "Life's a Beach." With performances in the Springfield and Branson area, the newly formed group continues to look for opportunities to expand their musical impact.

"We are a new band on the rise," vocalist and guitarist Cindy Tucker said, saying she had been part of other groups over the years and now continues to write songs and perform with her husband and other band members. "It's a blast. I've been in other bands before ... but this band's different."

Tucker said their five-piece band was invited to perform in Nevada and, since some of the musicians have family in the area, they decided to accept the invitation.

"They thought it would be a good place to come and play," Tucker said, adding they especially enjoy performing at outdoor venues.

Tucker said their music is a mix between Jimmy Buffet and Kenny Chesney, with some Jonny Cash thrown in as well since he was her cousin, though she did not know him well. They will perform for about two hours Thursday evening.

"It's going to be loud," Tucker said, saying they will have their own sound equipment and will perform a variety of songs -- both originals and classics -- and genres, including country, rock and southern rock. "That's the kind of style we write in ... We cross all genres of music."

But Tucker said there would be music for everyone to enjoy and hopes members of the community will come to listen.

Other band members include vocalist Sherrie Neill, lead guitarist Derek Compton, rhythm guitarist Michael Tucker, drummer Marty Neill and bassist Kyle Diehls. Music will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday on the Vernon County Courthouse lawn.

Local musician Joe Willis will also perform Thursday.
