Neptunes finish out season on high-note

The Nevada Neptunes swim team had a successful finish to its season at the Monett Tri-State A-Finals, Aug. 1-2 at the Monett Area YMCA, Ginny and Chris Fuldner Family Aquatic Center.

The championship event featured 379 swimmers from 12 Tri-State teams and one associate team, including 37 Neptunes. The Neptunes place sixth.

"I'm very proud of all of our swimmers and the improvements they have made this season," said Neptunes head coach Karen Claypool.

Neptunes swimmer Kate Stauffer dazzled in the 15-18 year-old division, breaking Tri-State records in the 50-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle, and 50-yard breaststroke, while also earning High Point Award honors.

Neptunes swimmer Cody Leung placed first in the 50-yard butterfly in the 9-10 year-old age division, while also garnering High Point Award runner-up accolades. In addition, Emma Leisure won the girls 9-10 year-old division High Point runner-up award.

Three Neptunes relay teams finished in first place: the female 8-and-under in the 100-yard freestyle relay; the female 13-14 year-old team in the 200-yard medley relay; and the female 15-18 year-old team in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

For the Neptunes, assistant coaches include Samantha Short, Dalton Eador, and Thomas Prewitt.

* Cody Leung, male 9-10, first place in 50-yard butterfly, second place in 100-yard individual medley, fourth place in 100-yard freestyle, fifth place in 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke and 50-yard breaststroke.

* Kate Stauffer, female 15-18, first place in 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard butterfly, and 200-yard individual medley.

* Emma Leisure, female 9-10, second place in 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard butterfly, and 100-yard individual medley, third place in 100 yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke.

* Morgan Ernsbarger, female 15-18, third place in 50-yard butterfly, sixth place in 200-yard individual medley, seventh place in 200-yard freestyle relay.
