National Night Out success for Nevada

Dear Editor:

On Tuesday, Aug. 4, the residents of Nevada joined forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the "32nd Annual National Night Out" (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out, which is co-sponsored locally by the City of Nevada Police Department and Parks Department, involves more than 16,540 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, more than 37 million people were expected to participate in "America's Night Out Against Crime."

In Nevada, we hosted a swim party at the Aquatic Center located at the intersection of Atlantic and Ash streets. The evening began with playing of "The National Anthem" and an introduction of master of ceremonies, Sheena Dickey. Mayor Brian Leonard presented Chief Graham Burnley with a proclamation for 2015 National Night Out. Door prizes were given away, more than 50 items total.
