The Nevada Lady Tigers varsity volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season, beating Harrisonville on the road Wednesday night.

The Lady Tigers handily defeated Harrisonville in two sets, 25-19 and 25-14.

"Tonight was a great way to start the season for the varsity girls," head coach Ashley Thoreson said. "We played with intensity and hustle the entire match. Our communication was our weakness during preseason, but you could not see that tonight.

"The talk between the whole team and the intensity the girls played with was contagious, and each one of them played very well. It was a team effort and very exciting to be a part of."

Nevada's Megan Hold registered 13 kills and 7 digs; Lexi Overton 10 digs; Ellie Smith 14 assists; and Margaret Cavener 4 aces.

The junior varsity team fell 25-12 and 26-24, while the freshman team was defeated 25-12 (25-20) and 15-6.

Thoreson said the JV and freshman teams initially struggled with communication and ball control.

"We were able to pick both of those areas up as the matches went on to play some good volleyball, and we saw lots of promising things that we will build on and continue to improve in," Thoreson said.
