Alex grew up in St. Louis and after high school served in the Navy Reserve Officers' Training Program at Iowa State College during World War II. While at Princeton Alex was a charter member of the 1st Princeton Pistol Club, which led to a lifelong passion of target shooting. He served as an officer in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War. After leaving the Coast Guard he returned to studies and received a Master's in City Planning from Georgia Tech. Alex worked as a city planner in Kansas City, Maryland and Texas, and later as chief inspector for the Alaska Pipeline Project.
In 1993 Alex married Mary Kathleen, having met as neighbors in Weaubleau, Mo. One of his favorite things was to hear Mary sing. Mary's voice gave him great comfort his last few years while he was at the Nevada Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jack, and his sister, Jan. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Kathleen; and by his four children, Tom McKee, Sandy McKee, Scott McKee, and Peggy McKee and their families, including 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
