Virginia "Lucille" Shumaker

Virginia "Lucille" Shumaker, 91, died on Oct. 11, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Lucille was born on Dec. 14, 1923, to Leslie Emmett and Myrtle Isabelle (Humbert) Gowin, in Nevada, Mo. She married Harold Leon Shumaker on Jan. 1, 1941, in a double ceremony with her brother, Glenn Franklin Gowin and Mildred Shumaker, in Nevada, Mo. She attended Antioch Christian Church for many years. She retired from Nelly Don after several years of service, but continued to work on their farm with her husband, Harold, who preceded her in death on June 10, 2014.

Lucille was a lifelong resident of Nevada. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing the harmonica, violin and the mandolin.

Survivors include her four sons, Harold Leon Shumaker Jr. and wife, Margaret (Wait), Henry Emmett Shumaker and wife, Polly (Mills), Ralph Edward Shumaker Sr. and wife, Sandi (Wainwright), and Raymond Lee Shumaker and wife, Brenda (Hirschmann); one daughter, May Hutchison and husband, Don; her grandchildren, Clarissa (McBride) Shumaker, Alicia (Wolfe) Shumaker, Ryan Shumaker, Henry Shumaker Jr., Karen (Foster) Shumaker, Brenda (Larsen) Shumaker, Ralph Shumaker Jr., Kelly (Hudson) Shumaker, Johnathan Shumaker, Amber (Hale) Shumaker, and Michelle (Kimmell) Wright; 17 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Gowin, Nevada, and Leslie Emmett Gowin and his wife, Maryanne, California; one sister, Margie Fisher, Adrian, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Harold, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Gowin, John Gowin and Wm. "Billy" Gowin; and two sisters, Frances Dixon and Fern Lynch.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 16, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Antioch Cemetery Fund in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
