NMS basketball teams topple Fort Scott to remain perfect
Nevada Middle School claimed three of four games from Fort Scott in girls' basketball action at the FSMS gymnasium Thursday evening. Fort Scott's only win of the evening came in the seventh-grade B-game, won by the Tigers 14-13 in overtime. Nevada won the seventh-grade A-game, 39-17, the eighth-grade B-game, 20-12, and the eighth-grade A-game, 39-12.
With the victories both the Nevada seventh and eighth-grade A-teams improve to 5-0.
Fort Scott's Hayley Bean sent the 7B game into the extra session with her score with 12 seconds remaining in regulation. Selena Gooderl gave Fort Scott the lead with her 3-pointer with 1:50 in the OT. Nevada's Abby Cornett scored with 1:26 left but the visitors could not get on the board again.
Bean led all scorers with 5 points. Cornett and Eden Fisher each scored 4 to lead Nevada. Mariah Vanskike had 9 rebounds for the Tigers.
Nevada scored the first 10 points of the 7A game and never looked back. The Tigers led 12-4 after one period and 22-9 at the half.
Brinna Ream led Nevada with 11 points followed by Alison Bower with 10. Bower had 7 rebounds for the Tigers while Ream finished with 6.
Nevada outscored Fort Scott 4-0 in the second quarter of the 8B game on its way to winning. Lani Coonrod led the Tigers with 6 points while Alyssa Wilson finished with 7 rebounds.
Nevada shut out Fort Scott in the fourth quarter of the 8A game after going into the period with a 29-12 lead. Calli Beshore led all scorers with 12 points. Jedeann Highley added 8 points and Teagan Charles hauled in 12 rebounds as Nevada outrebounded Fort Scott, 39-22.
