Evelyn Eilleen Wescoat Bain
Evelyn Eilleen Wescoat Bain, 90, passed away on Nov. 21, 2015, in Jefferson City, Mo. She was born on May 17, 1925, in Sabetha, Kan., the first born child of Arthur "Artie" Ephraim Wescoat and Mary Agnes (Brick) Wescoat.
Her family moved to Nevada, where Evelyn grew up on a farm with her many siblings. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1943, where she was first-chair violin her senior year. On April 12, 1948, she married Robert Leland Bain at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Nevada, Mo. They were married for 61 years. Evelyn was always by his side and cared for him unconditionally until his death on Oct. 4, 2009.
In 1960, she was the first woman assistant manager at Sherwin-Williams where she worked alongside her husband, Bob. In 1966, Bob and Evelyn purchased Del-Way Drive In, which they operated together for 26 years. They had many loyal customers who loved their cheeseburgers and suzies.
Evelyn belonged to Diana's GFWC, P.E.O., and Nevada Country Club. She was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church her entire life. She loved to cook and entertain her family and friends. She especially loved to play bridge and bake chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren.
Evelyn is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Bain, Kathleen Compton and her husband, Wayne, and Barbara Kolodgie and her husband, James; six grandchildren, Christine Rea-Bain, Elizabeth Bain, Hilary (Compton) Gremminger and her husband, John, Cecily Compton and her fiancé, Adam Slaughter, Will Kolodgie, and Madison Kolodgie; two great-grandchildren, Robbie Gremminger and Elsa Gremminger; her brother, Kenneth Wescoat and his wife, Velma; and numerous loving nieces and nephews, plus many, many long-time Nevada friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Villa Marie who gave Evelyn the compassionate care she needed in the last few months of her life.
In addition to her husband, Robert L. Bain, Evelyn was preceded in death by her five sisters, Armella Wescoat Horne, Florence Wescoat Pierce, Rose Lavon Wescoat (10 months), Dorothy "Pudgie" Wescoat Ogle and Patricia Lee Wescoat (10 months).
The recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 28, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada, Mo., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. The family will gather for a private graveside service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada, immediately following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Evelyn Bain may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
