Wilma Lorean Miller
Wilma Lorean Miller, 76, of Peculiar, Mo., formerly of Nevada, passed away Dec. 23, 2015, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center, in Overland Park, Kan. She was born March 18, 1939, in Walker, Mo., the daughter of Lewis Charles and Minnie Lee (Cowan) Covington. On Sept. 26, 1955, she was united in marriage to Gerald Joseph Miller and he survives of the home. Together their union was blessed with five sons.
Through her life Wilma was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker to her family and for a period of about 15 years ran an in-home daycare, a field in which she was well known and much beloved. She did work for a short time at Majestic Plastics in Grandview. On Easter Sunday 1956, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at the Linwood Baptist Church, in Kansas City, Mo. She was an accomplished piano player and vocalist singing in church and for many weddings and funerals. She loved flower gardening, sewing, crafts, and cooking. She collected all sorts of decorative mice through the years to fill her home. Most recently she had attended church at Greenwood Fellowship.
Survivors in addition to her husband include her five sons, Lyndell (Jerry) Miller and wife, Sandy, of Bolivar, Ronald Miller and wife, Karen, of Jefferson City, Dennis Miller and wife, Denise, of Florissant, Colo., Gary Miller and wife, Carolyn, of Debrecen, Hungary, and Russell Miller and wife, Krisha, of Topeka, Kan.; sister, Lavonne Messick, of Springfield; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, along with other extended family members. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Jerial Covington, Clark Covington, Orville Covington, Leverna McHenry, Florence Flynn, and Ruth O'Neal.
Funeral services for Wilma Lorean Miller are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with interment to follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, in Walker, Mo. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., just prior to the service also at the funeral home.
