Orton Wayne Wilson
Orton Wayne Wilson, 83, of rural Nevada, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, following a period of ill health. Orton was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Metz, the son of Earl D. and Zella May (Gregg) Wilson. He married Hazel N. Ricketts in Moundville on Feb. 14, 1974.
Orton was raised in Metz and graduated from Nevada High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe for three years during the Korean Conflict. Orton farmed and ranched in the Sheldon area while working for John Deere in Nevada for a number of years. He then managed the fertilizer plant in Bronaugh for several years. In September of 1972, Orton moved to Moundville, where he farmed, raised hogs, and operated Moundville Grain, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Moundville Methodist Church, the Jay Cee's, and the Missouri Cattleman's Association.
Orton was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Ricketts Stone; and a sister, Emily Bird. He is survived by his wife, Hazel, of the home; sons, Jim Satterfield (Cheri) Calmar, Iowa, Mike Ricketts (Beth) Springfield, Mo., Chris Ricketts (Adina) Moundville, Frank Wilson (Kerrie) Nevada, and Wayne Wilson (Shelley) Carthage, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, H.D. Wilson, Butler, Mo., and LeRoy Wilson, Plano, Texas; two sisters, Lura Jean Zinn, Hume, Mo., and Linda Byrns, Nevada; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, in the Welborn Cemetery, at Moundville, with the Rev. Kay Zimmer officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Ferry Funeral Home Chapel.
