Edna Mae Shutters
Edna Mae Shutters, 95, of Independence, Mo., passed from this life on Feb. 4, 2016, at The Groves, in Independence. She was born May 27, 1920, in Walker, Mo., the daughter of Charles Ezra and Minnie Julianna (Yenter) Eslinger. On Dec. 24, 1941, she was united in marriage to Marion Robert (Bud) Shutters and he preceded her in death on June 22, 1976.
After attending school in Walker, Edna moved to Nevada where she took a housekeeping job. It was while living in Nevada that she met Mr. Shutters. After their marriage, the couple moved to Iowa for short time until Bud was drafted. During his military commitment, Edna moved back to the Milo area to be near family. After his Honorable Discharge the couple moved back to Nevada for a time before relocating to Independence.
Through her working years she was a cook in the public school system in Independence until her retirement. As a child, she never especially cared to read, but when she picked up the Holy Bible, she could not put it down, reading it several times throughout her life. She cherished time spent with family and especially adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Mareana Mae Lloyd of Baxter Springs, Kan.; granddaughter, Denis Diane Graham and husband, James, of Pittsburg, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Rene' Burton and husband, Aron, of Columbus, Kan., and Dakota Aaron Low of Baxter Springs, Kan.; great-great-grandchildren, Mathew Dayton Graham, Emily May Burton, and Gavin Dale Burton; and nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Graveside services with interment for Edna Mae Shutters are scheduled at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Newton Burial Park, in Nevada.
