If you take a walk around downtown Nevada, you might come across a scarf or two tied to a pole. According to Kailee Byram and Mason Forkner, these scarves are not lost, and if you need one, please take one. Kailee and Mason spent the afternoon of Feb. 1, tying scarves to light poles in the downtown area of Nevada as a Step up to Leadership project for 4-H.

Kailee's mom, Megan Byram, said they collected approximately 75 scarves, and almost as many hats and gloves.

Mason said they got the idea from a family in Oklahoma. Mason and Kailee collected donated scarves and hats and attached a tag that says, "I am not lost! If you find yourself out in the cold, feel free to take this to help you keep warm." They are tying them to street lights in highly travelled areas in hopes that someone in need will take one and stay a little warmer this winter.

Kailee, 14, has been a member of Bronaugh 4-H for six years now. She shows swine, and beef. She goes to school at Bronaugh where she plays basketball, and is a member of the Junior FFA and Science Club. She wants to pursue a career as an anesthesiologist.

Mason, 10, has been in 4-H for three years, and shows swine and meat goats. He also participates in the 4-H robotics program and wants to work in agriculture someday.
