George Everett Vandenburg Jr.
George Everett Vandenburg Jr., 78, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at Barone Alzheimer's Care Center, in Nevada. George was born April 22, 1937, in Walker, Mo., to George Everett and Ertis Elizah (Kiger) Vandenburg. He was united in marriage to Wilma E. Knouf on May 6, 1958, in Nevada, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 2014.
George was raised in both the Walker and Metz areas. He graduated from Walker High School Class of 1955. For a number of years George worked in construction and then later worked at the Nevada State Hospital retiring after 34 years. George loved hunting, fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting, and being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, David Vandenburg and his wife, Laurie, El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Mike Vandenburg and his wife, Cindy, Nevada; three daughters, Malinda Ast and her husband, Daryl, Nevada, Rita Jacks and her husband, Greg, Richards, Mo., and Vicky Bouchard and her husband, Michael, Manassas, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Loretta Price; an infant sister, Edna Vandenburg; and infant brother, Leonard Vandenburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 15, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with the Rev. Mark Mitchell and Scotty Pritchett Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
