Tigers place second at Hickory Hills Invite
The Nevada Tigers golf team finished in second-place Monday at the Hickory Hills Country Club High School Invitational Golf Tournament in Springfield. Nevada, a Class 3 school, competed against a number of Class 4 schools, including Glendale High School, who had home-course advantage.
With a par-36, two-round tournament setup, Nevada tallied a team-score of 317, finishing 14 strokes back of champion Glendale at the 18-team event.
"This was the first time we have played in this tourney," Nevada golf coach Brian Leonard said. "We were not familiar with the course, so I was very pleased with our scores today."
Nevada junior John Quitno, who has won each of the three previous events he has played in this season, finished tied for third-place with a score of 3-over-par 75. Quitno finished two strokes out of first place ---- firing a 1-over-par 37 on the front-nine before finishing with a two-over-par 38 on the back-nine.
Fellow Nevada junior, Jacob Hammontree, finished the tournament tied for sixth-place, carding a 5-over-par 77. Hammontree shot a 39 on the front-nine and a 38 on the back-nine.
