Mary Anna Mendenhall
Mary Anna Mendenhall, 90, of Nevada, Mo., passed away peacefully at her home on May 29, 2016.
She was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Oct. 7, 1925, to David L and Juanita (Fredlund) Johnson Sr. She graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City in 1942 and attended The University of Kansas City. She married her high school sweetheart Paul E. Mendenhall on June 3, 1943, at The Wornall Road Baptist Church, in Kansas City. They moved to Nevada in 1951. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her four children, David Brent Mendenhall of Nevada, Ann and Clem Meyer of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Mark Mendenhall of Nevada, and Lee and Robin Mendenhall of Parkville, Mo.; grandchildren, Chandler Mendenhall, Columbia, Mo., Madeline Mendenhall, Kansas City, and Hilary Getty and husband, Matt, Denver; and great-grandchildren, Lexi and Libby Getty. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Lee Theis of New Mexico, and Irene Mendenhall of Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and numerous close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul E. Mendenhall; and brother, David L. Johnson Jr.
She was a long-time member of the Nevada United Methodist Church; the Nevada Country Club; the Lares Club; and Chapters KK and ND of P.E.O. She volunteered for several years as a driver for Meals on Wheels. She was involved in other civic organizations through the years.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 4, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, Mo., with private interment at Newton Burial Park to follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 3.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the United Methodist Church of Nevada, or to P.E.O. Scholarship Funds through the funeral home.
