Tiger duo fares well at state wrestling meet

A pair of Nevada High School wrestlers hit the mat for for the opening round of the Missouri High School Class 2 State Wrestling Championships on Thursday morning in Columbia.

Competing at 220-pounds, Nevada's Jacob Johnson (44-2) secured a victory over Ryan Owens of Maryville. Johnson's opening round win came courtesy of a pin (0:55). Meanwhile, fellow Nevada Tiger Caleb Longobardi, wrestling in the 195-pound weight division, was defeated in the first round by Moberly's Chance Richards via 8-3 decision. Longobardi later regrouped, as he bounced back with a pin (2:40) of Kennett's Devonte Flakes in the first round of wrestlebacks.

Both Johnson and Longobardi advanced to Friday's quarterfinals.
