No wine tasting at Bushwhacker Days
There will be no wine tasting on or in the vicinity of the Nevada Square during Bushwhacker Days this year. The Nevada City Council voted down two measures during its Tuesday night meeting to permit DeLaney Vineyard & Winery LLC, to hold a wine tasting at 119 N. Main Street. Members of the Bushwhacker Committee said they needed more time to plan for this and they were concerned about the sale of alcohol during Bushwhacker Days because participants in the Recovery Court provide labor to collect trash during the event. Committee members Erica Skouby and Pete Schmidt were concerned since the Recovery Court participants includes individuals from the DWI court. In response to a question from the council City Clerk Kristi Modlin told the council there were no restrictions placed on businesses that sell liquor by the drink with a resort license.
The council voted 0-5 to defeat Resolution No. 1483 approving an application by DeLaney Winery & Vineyard LLC for a temporary liquor by the drink license, and later voted 0-5 to defeat Resolution No. 1486 waving a section of the city code that prohibits the sale of liquor by the drink on the Nevada Square or one block off the Square.
