Nevada’s Gayman collects major hoops accolade

Nevada High School standout student-athlete, Clay Gayman, was recently named Joplin Globe’s Male Basketball Athlete of the Year. Gayman, a 6-foot-5 junior forward, helped lead the Nevada Tigers to 18 consecutive victories, culminating with an appearance in the Missouri Class 4 District 12 championship game, where Nevada fell to Grandview.
Gayman, who has earned a reputation as one of the top prep basketball players in the state, averaged 24 points, 11 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots a game for the 2016-17 season. Gayman has already received several scholarship offers, including from Pittsburg State University. Gayman, who has been traveling this summer with the Kansas City Pacers on the AAU basketball circuit –– was invited to particulate in an All-State game, scheduled for Aug. 12 in Columbia. Gayman was one of only 24 players selected, as the event, dubbed “KC vs. the Lou” is advertised as pitting the top 12 AAU players out of the KC area, against the top 12 AAU players from St. Louis.
